Reisterstown - Owings Mills - Glyndon
Coordinating Council

Minutes of the January 5, 2009 meeting of ROG at the All Saints Episcopal Church.

The meeting was called to order at 7:37 p.m. by ROG’s president, George Harman.

The motion to approve the minutes of the December 1, 2008 meeting was made and seconded.

Treasurer’s Report: Our bank account stands at $2,253.86. A check will be given to All Saints for $200 in appreciation for the use of their facility during 2007 and 2008.

Community News: Mary Molinaro advised us that Phyllis Daly, an active volunteer in the community for many years and a past president of ROG for 1979 to 1981, has entered hospice care with end-stage cancer. Larry Dobres announced that Phyllis Bloom, a past vice-president of ROG and long-time PTA member, has lost her son in an auto accident. George offered to send sympathy cards on behalf of ROG.

Reports from our elected officials:
Vicki Almond, representing Senator Bobby Zirkin, extended an invitation to ROG members to attend his gala without charge at the Pikesville Hilton January 8th. The new legislative session begins January 14. Vicki encouraged those with concerns or ideas for the Senator’s office to email her at: vickialmond9@aol.com
Maryland Senators and Delegates have been asked to contribute a portion of their salary back to the state as by law they are not subject to furloughs.
Jonathan Schwarz briefed us on the County Executive’s “Legislative Roll-out.” There is only one bond bill being proposed – for maintenance at Robert E. Lee Park for $3 million. The aim this year is to maintain the present level of services in these difficult times. Jon Cardin will not be submitting any bill that requires new funding.
Norma Bosley made the happy announcement that Dana Stein is expecting a 2nd child in March!

Committee Reports:
• Library – Melissa Gotsch comes to Reisterstown from the Pikesville branch as of 12/8/08. Melissa advised us
that our library has new ceiling tiles and lights as well as new side doors for the delivery entrance. On the exterior, the branch signage is now lit at night.
• Education – Jon Schwarz. The county is systematically updating the mechanical systems in the elementary schools, then the middle schools and finally the high schools. The only major construction planned is at Carver Center in Towson.
• Police – Officer Krueger reported that two men have been arrested for a string of robberies in the area, namely the gas station robbery in Reisterstown. Car thefts are down in the area – the car “of choice” seems to be older Dodge vans. The Franklin precinct will be sending 52 officers (mainly from the Community Action Team) to man the inauguration security. Several car/truck/Rv violations in the area have been cleared.

Old Business:
• Junk yard behind Tonino’s has been cleared away.
• January 15th – Planning Board vote on a new Plinlimmon plan to include a site for a new elementary school.
• Delight Quarry will submit their plan on Feb. 9, 2009

New Business:
• 67 Main Street – People’s Counsel filed a motion to appeal the submission to allow for living quarters above
• Fuchs/North America on Reisterstown Rd. is obtaining a permit from the Dpt of the Environment for a new sterilizer and scrubber to remove ETL or ethyline oxide.

The next meeting will be on Monday, February 2, 2009 at 7:30 pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Gail Mangels, Recording Secretary
